Understanding

What is a vasectomy?

A vasectomy is a minor (minimally invasive) operation to 'cut' and 'tie' both vas deferens - the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the urethra.

How it prevents pregnancy: After a vasectomy the testicles still produce sperm and testosterone as normal, but the sperm can no longer travel through the cut tubes, so they don't mix into the semen at ejaculation - and fertilisation cannot occur.

What does not change after a vasectomy

Doesn't affect sexual performance

A vasectomy does not affect:

Sex drive (libido)
Testosterone is still produced and works normally; sex drive does not decline.
Erection & ejaculation (erectile & ejaculatory function)
You can still ejaculate normally - there are simply no sperm mixed in.
Sensation and orgasm
There is no effect on orgasm - everything feels exactly the same.

5 things to know before deciding

Important information to know:

Results must be confirmed with a semen test
You are not sterile immediately after the procedure - keep using other contraception for another 2-3 months, then return for a semen analysis to confirm.
It is permanent contraception
Decide carefully and firmly that you do not want children in the future.
Requires the partner's shared agreement
Good family planning should come from a decision made together by both partners.

No-Scalpel Vasectomy - small wound, less pain, fast recovery

At MENdical Clinic we use the No-Scalpel Vasectomy technique, recognised worldwide as effective and better at reducing complications than the traditional method:

Services Offered

  • Very small wound - just a 2-3 mm puncture instead of a cut
  • Less pain - local anaesthetic only, no general anaesthesia
  • Less bleeding - lower risk of bruising
  • Sometimes no stitches are needed, or just 1-2 stitches
  • Return to light activities within 1-2 days
  • Performed by a specialist urologist
The doctor applies local anaesthetic to the scrotum, then uses a special instrument to 'puncture' a tiny opening of just 2-3 millimetres (instead of a scalpel cut) to draw out the vas deferens, tie and cut it, then return it. It takes about 30-45 minutes.
Much smaller wound, sometimes no stitches | less pain during and after | less bleeding, lower risk of bruising | lower complication rate | faster recovery, back to normal life in 1-2 days
